He has a special interest in Medical Oncology/Hematology and the medical interactions with other clinical branches and basic sciences. He is very interested in the field of developmental therapeutics and clinical research. This has integrated projects involving all the branches of clinical oncology as well as basic research. He also has an interest in biological therapeutics targeting various molecular targets on cancer cells. He has been the pioneer in establishing Bone Marrow Transplantation in India. He is the recipient of the PADMASHRI and PADMA BHUSHAN awards from the Government of India and the Dhanvantari Award for outstanding contributions to Medicine, and Lifetime Achievement in Oncology in 2005.
Dr. S H Advani is a famous oncologist who pioneered stem cell transplantation in Mumbai as well as all over India. He studied at Grant Medical College, Mumbai, and then completed his Masters in oncology. He gained experience in the field of bone marrow transplantation from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, in Seattle, Washington.
